Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country occupying the Malaysian Peninsula and part of the island of Borneo. It's known for its beaches, rainforests and mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European influences. The sprawling capital, Kuala Lumpur, is home to colonial buildings, busy shopping districts such as Bukit Bintang and skyscrapers including the iconic, 451m-tall Petronas Twin Towers.
An important result of Malaysia's carefully managed modernization is a steadily improving education system that has poured millions into research and development, and to encouraging international students into the country. With a unique international flavour, low crime rates, Malaysia is becoming an increasingly popular study abroad destination. Malaysia is a rapidly emerging competitor in the recruitment of international students. The country hosts approximately 80,000 international students from over 100 countries, which are attracted by its first-rate higher education, relatively low tuition fees, its harmonious multicultural society, political stability and the widespread use of English.
Quality Education Programs :The quality of educational institutions in Malaysia is monitored by the Malaysian government enforcement of legislation such as The Education Act, 1996, the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act, 1996 and The Malaysian Qualifications Agency Act 2007. The Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) provides guidelines and constant monitoring to ensure colleges and universities meet the highest standards in education and are internationally recognized.
Institutions of higher learning in Malaysia provide professional, career-focused education offering courses that are up-to-date and market relevant. Graduates from Malaysia have no problems finding employment back in their home country. International students can also get an accredited degree from many choices of world-renowned universities from UK, USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand through their twinning programs or branch campuses in Malaysia.
International students who want a degree from developed countries like UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand can enroll in collaborative degree programs with reputable international universities such as the 2+1 programs or 3+0 programs which enable students to complete the entire foreign degree programs right here in Malaysia, and still be conferred with a degree from the partner university overseas. Alternatively, international students can study at foreign university branch campuses set up in Malaysia.
Affordable Cost of Education :The Malaysian system allows a student’s immediate family members to live in Malaysia while he or she holds a student visa within the country. This is favourable amongst students that have families
In addition to the above, the Malaysian government also highly encourages commercialization of research and development (R&D) activities such as concept designs. Thus, truly talented foreign students are also given a chance to excel in the R&D field, something that is not offered everywhere on the globe. Having run through all the determining factors, perhaps now you understand better why foreign students prefer to study in Malaysia? I sure hope so!
Courses are Conducted in English :International students should not have any problems studying in Malaysia as English is the primary medium of Instruction for all courses and study programs conducted at the private higher educational institutions. For those less proficient in the language, there are numerous schools and institutions offering basic English courses.

Apart from mixing with Malaysian students, international students are also exposed to other students from different nationalities.

Plenty of choices in terms of universities and colleges : Courses here in Malaysia are held mostly in English, thus foreign students that are well-versed in English would find it easy to communicate and converse in this language. Regardless of whether the students choose public universities that offer plenty of research-based courses to undertake or private universities or colleges that offer plenty of home-grown undergraduate or postgraduate courses, students have plenty of choices to select from in terms of courses or institutions of higher learning. Many universities also partner with foreign universities to obtain degrees that are more globally recognized, thus this is also an advantage for foreign students.
Emphasis on Research :This would prove true especially for postgraduate studies as the Malaysian government has provided the platform and encouragement to conduct plenty of research and development activities in specific fields such as medicine, electronic commerce, digital broadcasting, telecommunications and others. In addition Malaysia also owns plenty of natural reserves such as rainforests and mountains that can be explored for flora/ fauna research activities.
